Replacing OE radio harness
Replacing OE radio harness
So a co worker of mine recently acquired a 2000 LX sedan from an auction. Someone had installed an after market sound system and tore it all out before auction simply leaving an unconnected stock radio just sitting in the dash.
The problem is, whoever installed the previous system and what also looks like one before that, did a hack job. As you can see in the picture it appears someone cut out the OE radio connecter at some point, then someone cut out that leaving two different spliced connections simply twisted together and covered with electrical tape...sigh.
The connector this ugly mess of wires is currently connected to is clearly for an after market receiver with numerous wires not connected to anything. One of them was wrapped around the metal prong of a 15A fuse then stuck into one of the un used fuse ports under the dash....???
I have installed a sound system before in a ford ZX2 but all the connections were not butchered, so it was pretty straight forward.
My thinking is that I should remove the wires at the first spliced connection, and then splice them all back (properly) into an OE radio harness. Would this one work? would the color coded wires match back up to this replacement connector, or will I need to find a wire diagram for the stock radio wires?
Then my co worker wants to put in a cheap, simple receiver ( ) and then from there I would use this after market connector ( ) to splice into the wires from the receiver then plug it into the new OE radio connector.
Another problem is who ever removed all this stuff before left out the 4 bolts that hold the radio to that metal frame and also the bolts that hold the metal frame to the console. What size bolts/screws could I use to replace them?
Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Replacing OE radio harness
Got to love hack jobs!! That looks like a complete mess. All the adapters you found on Amazon looked like the correct ones according to the description. I agree, cutting everything out and splicing in a new factory harness would be the best route. I would try to convince the car owner to get a little better head unit also. Here is a pic with the bolts that I think you are talking about:

Those bolts are exactly what I was looking for, thanks a ton!
What do you think about figuring out which wires would splice into the replacement OE harness. The color of the wires listed here (http://www.modifiedlife.com/2000-hon...iring-diagram/) don't match up to the ones currently in vehicle as far as I can tell. And the wires from the OE replacement harness are way different than what is currently in vehicle as well.
I dunno how accurate that diagram from modified life is. But from what I can tell, the twisted pairs of wires in the pictures seem to be for the speakers, then the loose hanging ones are the power, illumination?, I think that yellow wire that was clipped into an empty fuse was acting as ground...

Re: Replacing OE radio harness
I agree that splicing in another OEM wiring harness is the best coarse of action. A guy could do a proper job connecting an aftermarket HU to the mess that was left for you, but splicing in an OEM harness gives you more wire length and makes swapping HU's easier later down the road.
I also agree in that he really ought to spend a bit more on the HU he buys.

Re: Replacing OE radio harness
Tried to post a reply few days ago but it hasn't shown up?
Anyway, so will the wire colors for the OE replacement harness match up to the wires in the car or am I going to need to find a wiring diagram for the stock wires then match them up to the wiring diagram for the OE replacement?
Thanks for the link to the bolts, exactly what I was looking for.

Re: Replacing OE radio harness
I would imagine that since the harness you are buying is vehicle specific that it will come with a pin out of all the wires. If not then here is a good source for wire colors. See if they have your car:
