2004 Door Lock Part Confusion
2004 Door Lock Part Confusion
After rebuilding my driver's side door lock and having it jam again a few weeks later, I've decided to just replace it. I have a Canadian, 2dr, 2004 DX Value Package, and I'm a little confused as to which part number I need.
According to TorontoHondaParts.com, the P/N is 72146-S0X-A51. According to HondaPartsCheap.com, that P/N is for an '03, and I actually need a 72185-S5A-A11.
Some other clues: My existing lock has "S9A L-A" stamped on the outer cylinder. There is a TSB which discusses replacing the lock in '03 civics and some '04s, but my VIN is not included. I used my VIN to search on both websites, and they both came up with basically the same description: THP: DX(AC), HPC: DX (Value Pkg).
Can anyone tell me which part I need? Also, does anyone know a set of part numbers for ordering tumblers individually (I've only found 50 and 100 packs for more than I want to spend) from either of these websites?
Thanks in advance for your help. I'll be sure to post back to let you all know how it went.

Re: 2004 Door Lock Part Confusion
On the bulletin http://www.skidmore.edu/~pdwyer/e/files/tsb/a03-068.pdf
Look at the date the bulletin was issued. Your car was probably made after the bulletin was issued.
As far as I'm concerned, the information in this bulletin applies to ALL Honda cars with sidewinder locks.
I only have a USA catalog, so I can't look up any Canadian cars here by VIN.
(USA cat says 72185-S5A-A11, drivers (left) door, for all versions of 04 coupe.)
Let the dealer look it up and order it, that way if it is wrong it isn't your fault.
A dealer has to retumble the cylinder to match your key. This is explained in the bulletin. Bring your key and VIN.
Parts people may not know a damn thing about tumbling the locks.
Same goes for the person at the service write up desk.
YOU may need to talk to a real tech that has been there a while.
Lubies need not apply.
The 50/100 packs are for the tumbler kit that any good dealer should have. This kit should have a few door lock blanks too. That bulletin says so.
I really don't think any dealer will let you use their kit to DIY your own.
I really doubt any indy lock shop would have a tumbler kit for Hondas sidewinder keys (unless they could see some ROI from that specialized area of the market).
I know I am the only person in this town that can retumble door or ignition locks on these cars.
