2003 EX Oil Pan part number check please

!#$%!@#$%!#$ !!!! Let me share a little learn-it-the-hard experience I had this weekend. Do NOT talk on your phone while putting the oil drain plug back in the hole. At least ensure it isn't a heated debate with a family member. Complete uninterrupted concentration is required.

So I stripped the threads in my shiny aluminium oil pan that apparently costs a fortune to manufacture, because they are expensive.

Any chance getting someone to repair an aluminum pan? (seems unlikely)

Here is the part number I've found:
11200-PLE-000

The question is: what does that all include? Just the pan? Any new hardware? New drain plug?

Also, no gasket appears to be listed. Hondabond? Any alternatives.

Thanks.

That part number includes the pan, drain plug, and washer. There is no gasket, use a bead of honda bond on the sealing surface.

Piece #5 in the link below. $215 plus shipping. Comes with new plug and crush washer.

Honda bond or

Honda's ultra flange seal II for the gasket.

I used ultra flange seal II when I did mine. Really sticky stuff when it dries.

Yeah, went to the parts store and found an oversized drain plug that can cut new threads. Perhaps I'll try that first. Thanks.

Honda manual gives 4 parts numbers: two for hondabond and two for ultraflange. Thanks for the input.

last time I pulled my oil pan, I just used some high temp RTV I got at autozone

Also, dunno if this will work at your dealership, but it's worth a shot:

When I replaced my head gasket, I went to see how much my local dealership parts department had it for. They were asking $250 for the head gasket kit. I showed them that I could have it overnighted from Majestic Honda (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com) for $180 and change. The parts manager then offered to sell me the kit for $185 after tax.

Just some food for thought.

Re: 2003 EX Oil Pan part number check please

we used these at a lube shop i worked at way back when....

you screw it in and it cuts new threads, then you use the small plug to drain the oil, and leave the main plug in permanently....

Yeah, wonder how the high-temp RTV holds up. I was thinking the same thing.

Also, hondapartscheap.com is a dealership about a 20 min drive from me. Same parts counter, so if you just order online and do pickup it's the same ****.

So went to the parts store and they had these or the oversized tapered drain bolts that also cut new threads. I went with the oversized option.

And **** me sidways, I screwed it up. Thought I had it started straight, took my time cutting a few threads, then backing it out. But by the time I got it in it was offset and did not seal properly. **** me.

Do not own a tap and die set. Think I can take it to a machine shop or auto shop and have them drill and tap it? (who would do something like this?) Has to be cheaper than a new part. Or maybe I could convince the old lady I need some new tools!

yes....you could take the pan to a shop, they can tap it to a bigger size and give you a new drain plug to fit....

or you can buy a tap set, they are not that expensive....

the only problem with tapping it while on the car is, you will end up with some metal shavings/filings inside the oil pan that will mix with your oil.....not a good thing

Yeah, I would take the pan off for sure. Thanks for the input.

I've seemed to ****ed it up once already, so I think I'll take it somewhere if the price is better than the used part I found.

Re: 2003 EX Oil Pan part number check please

if the shop can weld to the pan (not sure if its possible because its aluminum) you could ask them to cover up the existing hole....drill a new hole beside it (or on the bottom of the pan) and weld a nut to the inside of the pan....then you use a bolt that will fit the nut as your new drain plug
