Wiper fail and christmas tree indicator lights.
Wiper fail and christmas tree indicator lights.
Hi folks, first post with a doozy problem in my '02 Civic Si. My mechanic AND the dealership guys were unable to diagnose it.
A year ago driving in the rain I had an odd system failure, the wipers and the turn signals both failed simultaneously. I took the car to a Honda dealer, they checked it, got the signals working (just a bad fuse) and concluded that the wiper motor had failed. Rather than over-pay them to replace the motor I replaced it myself. Surprisingly, it would not activate. I knew the motor was good so I started with the fuses and sure enough, those morons didn't even bother to check the wiper fuse which had also blown. I was fuming.
Everything was fine for awhile until indicator lights on my console started dimming and flickering even in the off position (for example my cruise control and high beam indicators would flicker even when off). The left turn signal would also fail to blink (solid on) even when not in use.
My (new) mechanic kept the car for two weeks and $700 later concluded the problem was the under-dash fuse box (and hence the muliplex unit), replaced it and returned the car. He also forgot to check that the fuses in the new box were correct, twice :/ So I replaced them all myself.
After that things worked for awhile until the wipers failed again, in the rain. Giving up on the pros I grabbed a service manual and got to work. I tested every fuse in the car both visually and for continuity, tested the wiper motor, tested the wiper motor switch, changed the battery and once again replaced the multiplex unit which was a nightmare.
The wiper motor is getting power but the voltage is too low to fire it. The wire looks good as far as I can follow it to the last harness before it disappears.
My thinking is there is a loose ground connection somewhere but there are MANY of those and I'm not sure which to check; the fact that the turn signal is consistently shorting might be a clue.
Any thoughts??? Google is not much help and I'm at my wit's end. I've got the wiper motor wired directly to the battery via a switch, fuse, and some household electrical wire
It works but I have to open the hood to turn on the wipers which is killing me.
Other details:
-My civic had an after-market 'Veloz' upgrade, different tail lights and such. Perhaps they screwed up some of the wiring?
-AC is offline but died slowly so might just be out of coolant.
-Remote door locks don't work though battery and power locks are good.
