AT dipstick gasket??
AT dipstick gasket??
First off, Hi. I'm new here.
Recently bought a used 2003 Civic LX for my wife. This week there seemed to be an issue starting with the AT slipping. When I checked the fluid I noticed that the transmission dipstick just sits loose in the hole in the AT. I mean it rattles around in there, like it could just fall out if you hit a bump. Looking at the dipstick itself, it has ridges around the top, looks like it is supposed to seal into a rubber gasket or something. But when you look at where it goes, it's just an open metal hole, much larger in diameter than the fitting on the top of the dipstick.
I looked up an exploded diagram of the transmission parts, thinking I was missing something there.. but there is no part listed in the hole itself. I know this can't be right, because it's not good for the ATF to be openly exposed to air like that.
So what gives? Is there some sort of gasket or seal that I'm missing? Anyone have a part number for me?

Re: AT dipstick gasket??
You need a dipstick.
New dipstick will fit tight in the hole and won't fall out once it is inserted all the way.
It's like about $11 at any reputable dealer.
If the fluid is full and you have slippage, you may need a transmission.
(Price may be a bit higher than a dipstick.)

25610-PLX-003 is the newest part number.

My dipstick looks just fine.. it looks exactly like every other dipstick I've found pictures of. ???
The transmission only slipped just a tiny bit when I first took off and it was still cold, I drove the car for about 30 minutes this afternoon and all the subsequent shifts felt solid.

They are different. Some of the original factory one's were faulty that came with the car. I just found out a few months ago that the new part number and dipstick existed. Just use the part number ezone provided and you will have a tight fitting dipstick. My wobbled all over the place when I first got it. I just wedged in such a way to keep it from moving around.

Ohh, awesome! (other than the fact that this car has been running around for 140k with a big gap there
Thanks guys!
