Exclamation 2002 Honda Civic Coil Springs

About three weeks ago, I purchased a 2002 Honda Civic. Whenever I make a left turn, a single loud popping/clunking noise occurs beneath my car on the RIGHT side. It didn't start happening until the right lower control arm, and sway bar links were replaced by the used car lot - which may just be a coincidence.

I have taken my car back to the used lot, as well as Precision Auto, to have the noise investigated. Nothing was determined. A few days ago, my dad spent a solid ten hours or so investigating it himself. He's not a mechanic, but he does work on his own trucks. He noticed that the coil springs that encircle the struts are rotating, and he doesn't believe they are supposed to do that - but he isn't sure. Are they supposed to stay put? He thinks that after a left hand turn is completed, the spring, essentially, snaps back into place which is creating that sound. Could that be the case?

is it stock suspension ?? the top has to spin otherwise they will bind and cause what your talking about. you mite need to replace your upper strut mount bearings. if there after market you can add bottom thrust bearings to help also http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ha...9/media/images
also make sure they didn't F up your ball joint.

Yes lowlife9, it is stock suspension.

Someone in another forum said that they are NOT supposed to rotate, just move up and down...? And that I should check under the hood to see if the nuts & washers are still in place for the struts... Either way, the cover that is above the coil - I'm sorry I don't know the correct term - is torn and needs to be replaced.

I'm going back to the used lot tomorrow, and demanding it fixed. I just wanted to have all of my ducks in a row so it seems like I know what I'm talking about...

I think they've slightly taken advantage of the fact I'm a young female, and that I mustn't know anything about cars.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic Coil Springs

I do suppose that is the sound it makes. I haven't listened to it from a parked position, so the sound is amplified quite a bit while driving.

So the spring coil is only supposed to swivel at the top? I'd have to look at mine again, but I think the entire spring is rotating. I guess that would explain why my car can't quite stay aligned?
