03 LX Timing Belt / Oil Pump Housing Leak - COST?
03 LX Timing Belt / Oil Pump Housing Leak - COST?
The car has 103,800 on it, and I just bought it. I have no way of knowing if the timing belt has been done, but the dealer is telling me they don't think it has as they don't see any tooling marks on any of the bolts that have to be removed to change it...
They also said I have a slight leak @ the oil pump housing gasket.
They quoted me $1100 + tax! (OUCH!!)
Does this sound right? Any ideas on getting the cost down? I'm kinda leary about going to an independent service shop, but I don't know if I should be or if it should be fine...
Suggestions?

Re: 03 LX Timing Belt / Oil Pump Housing Leak - COST?
that sounds slightly high to me, i have done that job myself,
if all you are having replaced is the timing belt and the oil pump seal/gasket, your total parts would be around 50 bucks, so thats $1050 in labor,
a job like that should not be over $750 labor (in my opinion),
or are you having other parts replaced as well? like the water pump or timing belt tensioner?
did they give you a breakdown of the estimate? parts/labor
i would not have an independant shop do a job like that though, so you might be stuck if you cant do it yourself,
