front end roar/growl?

my 02 civic ex(100k miles as of 2 weeks ago) has developed an elusive roar in the front end. it starts around 40-45mph and changes with acceleration. shortly after it developed a metal on metal rythmic "shink" sound. i had my mechanic check the bearings and he said all was good. he did the typical wheel play/spin test and a visual inspection. we discovered the brakes need to be changed so we serviced the brakes and that took care of the "shink". the roar is still there though. the tires are less than 6 months old. there isnt much, if any, change while cornering. nothing has changed in the way the car has been driven. my wife is a little heavy on the accelerator but she'll be the one paying for the ticket when she gets one.

the only possible cause could be that we hit a pot hole on a back road while coming home from myrtle beach.

just short of swapping every wheel with the donut and riding around we have tested everything we know of. could it be an alignment issue?

all help is appreciated
thanks

Re: front end roar/growl?

no way to know but if you rotate the tires and the noise stays the same, its prolly not the wheels/tires.
