Freon lines

I am removing my a/c compressor. My question is, when I take out the a/c compressor, should I disconnect the freon lines? Should I disconnect them right at the a/c compressor, or should I disconnect them right under the hood (see the part circled in black below)? Also, will the lines seal automatically when I disconnect them?

Thanks.

Re: Freon lines

The object you circled in red is the power steering pump. According to the service manual you are suppose to disconnect from the condenser which is in front of the radiator. You are also suppose to use a refrigerant recovery/recycle station.

Re: Freon lines

My a/c compressor is needs replacing, and I don't want or need a/c, so I'm taking it out.

Re: Freon lines

A follow-up question. I took the a/c compressor out, and now my car won't start without a jump. I know the new shorter belt goes to the alternator alone now. Could it be too tight or loose? Any thoughts?

Re: Freon lines

What is the resting voltage of the battery? Key out, lights/stereo off.
Grab your multimeter and post voltage.
The belt could be too loose.
