what is a square wave electronic signal.

I am looking for a tach. for my car. I found one I realy like from ProSport and it requires a square wave electronic signal. Can any one help with this?

Sure.

Square wave (typical)

as viewed on a labscope.

Just plug in your scope and see what your signal looks like.

Hope that helped.

Newer vehicles run off of a square wave to time the electronic circuits in the ECU. Square waves are used for timing electronic devices. Im not sure what Honda uses but I thought they used an AC signal from one of stator coils, or alternator as a tach sense.

I have never seen that on any gas engine from any manufacturer....I HAVE seen it on diesels.

We have no clue what car the OP is dealing with, other than it is old.
