newbee on lowering my honda
newbee on lowering my honda
I have 2 Honda civic's. 98 was lowered when I bought it for my wife. Gave that one to her son who needed a car. Just bought her a 04 civic 2 door. She wants it lowered now. Its all stock execpt for the aftermarket tires and wheels, 205/40/17. I can turn a wrench but never owned a honda before and don't know where to start. I see springs on ebay for $100 on up. I know alittle about coil over shocks but don't know really what to do to get it down to make her happy. Still want a good ride but it needs to look lowered. Want to do it the right way, no cutting coils. Thanks for reading and any help would be great.

Re: newbee on lowering my honda
Tokico HP shocks- $380-400
Neuspeed Sport Springs - $100-120 used or $200ish new.
Wicked Tuning Rear Camber Kit - $120 new.
Best complete comfortable budget setup, a bit over your budget but all good quality parts that would serve you well for years.

yeah if you are concerned about her well being then don'tbuy anything from ebay. your going to want Eibach springs if you just want to lower it less then 2 inches. anything more your going to need either a full coilover system or upgraded struts to go with the springs.
Re: newbee on lowering my honda
There's a craigslist for H&R Sport lowering springs on OEM Acura RSX Struts. Lowers car 1.5 Says they will fit 2001/2005 civic. Wants $200 obo. Don't trust anyone just because they say that they will fit.

Re: newbee on lowering my honda
edit:
Here's the review
I installed these H & R springs about a week ago, I noticed it was really stiff so I cut the stock bumpstops 1 layer front and back. With the goldlines I only had the bumpstops that the konis came with in the front and no stock bumpstops. Also, with the goldlines, I had 2 layers of stock bumpstops in the back.
For the install of the H& R Springs. I bought new bumpstops since I pretty much had none due to the huge drop with goldlines. When installing the new bumpstops, I only cut one layer in the back. I noticed it was too stiff in the front, worse than with goldlines so I cut one layer from the front as well. Big difference, because I had no idea the konis came with their own bumpstops.
The difference for the rear came when I raised the perch on the spring seat, basically it compressed the spring to where it needed to be and gave me that 2 finger gap all around I knew it would give me... even though everyone with H & R says it's an uneven drop, I got to to be an even 2 finger gap.
Review: I have had konis with all my springs Pro kit, s tech, goldlines and now H & R.
Pro kit - Comfortable because not too big of a drop these springs felt softest. Uneven drop, but good cornering.
S- Tech - Good springs, hatchback feeling to it, stiff in front, bouncy in the back, not so good cornering unless I stiffened the konis in the rear.
Goldlines 1.75 - Great in handling, tires went by quick, harsh ride, looks great with that drop, but way too harsh for my style.
H & R - Eibach comfort feeling since they are the only 2 progressive springs I have had, Handling is great without the sacrifice of comfort and springs are stiffer than the eibach. And the drop looks beautiful with two fingers all around. I cannot explain it, but they handle really great and they feel really comfortable.
Progressive springs is the way to go. People have asked me you have gone thru so many springs, why not get coilovers. Well, I drove my friends RSX Tein SS - P coilovers and they were too stiff in the front and too soft in the back and that's with the coilovers placed in softest. My friend with the coilvers said he loved the way my car handled compared to his coilovers. Another friend said the same thing.
I hope someone can use my reviews of all these springs and not make the same mistake I did of going and buying springs just too see which one is perfect. For me, I have to say the H & R is the best compromise of comfort and great stiff handling.

I wouldn't buy them with the RSX struts, because OEM struts can't support lowering springs. The dampers inside the struts are valved to support the stock spring rates of around 200lb, whereas these are closer to 350lb. Handling, ride, and longevity of the struts are greatly sacrificed when lowering springs are put on stock struts. I would try to pay $80-100 and buy just the springs.
