best way to go about reinstalling pwr steering?
best way to go about reinstalling pwr steering?
so i bought a 97 DX and the power steering has been removed and i figured who cares but there for it will not pass VA state inspection.....
so should i replace the pump reservoir and and hoses maybe the rack (if its not good)? or is there a way to get it to pass legally?
input is greatly appreciated
thanks

Re: best way to go about reinstalling pwr steering?
Anything aside from the reservoir and the hoses anything powersteering related is gonna be huge $$$. Rack's never go back unless the car has flood damage. Knowing the idiocy of your prior owner, he probably just took the belt off and drained the fluid. Just refill the resi, get the proper belt, and you should be good to go.

The only hard part to find in good condition is the rack. Go get one from the junkyard and re-build it, any '96-'00 HX, LX, or EX will have P/S. Then all you need is the pump, hoses, bracket, and belt. I wouldn't trust a junkyard pump or belt, get a re-built pump and new belt (maybe hoses too).
