03 civic 1.7l non vtech non EGR engine replacement help!
Hi guys im new to the forum , i have been reading on here for a while and need help!
I have a 2003 civic 1.7l non vtech engine. i bought it with the timing belt broken. i got a replacement engine from an autowrecker. it is out of a 2004 civic.
the old engine did not have the EGR valve. i have the ecu and wiring from this original engine.
the new engine has the EGR valve. but i do not have the full wire harness or ecu.
My question..
Will the new engine(with EGR valve) run properly if i hook up my wire harness and ecu (off of the old non EGR engine) and just leave the EGR valve unplugged?
please guide me in the wrong direction.
Thanks!
Vic

That's hilarious.
First, on any engine replacement job, you strip the old and new engines (as necessary) and swap all the necessary parts to make the new one look and work like the old one. That means swapping all of the coolant ports, manifolds, etc., that are different. The EGR is part of that.
If your only difference is the original engine does not have the EGR valve, then there should be a block off plate where the EGR valve would go. Swap it to the new engine.
That way, someone later on won't be digging around trying to hook up a valve that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
