93 si swapped b16a, strange bog?

so in 5th, anytime i tromp on a fair amount of thottle (currently cruising at 110-120km) it will accelarate, then it bogs, seeming like it cuts to half power, next to no throttle response, but will return in about 10 seconds and as long as i dont pass 1/4 throttle or less, it wont do it again. it intermittenly does this (sometimes will if i bury the pedal, sometimes doesnt), but does seem to be more so when its cold outside ( > -15 ). Any starting points? car runs great with lots of power the rest of the time

vacuum lines will cause this sometimes. listen when you turn car off for a hiss. check main intake vacuum.
second idea would be a fuel issue. filter or weak pump

I'd want to monitor fuel pressure and exhaust backpressure, see which one is out of sorts when the problem happens.
A broken cat element could bounce around and clog the exhaust somewhat randomly.

I wonder if throttle icing could be an issue?

Re: 93 si swapped b16a, strange bog?

sorry for the delayed response guys, but vacuum lines and exhaust back pressure would definately be where i'm going to start. i had to modify my stock downpipe's flange by turning it 15 degrees to fit the already aftermarket piping's flange (from previous motor which i had a header for) and i hooked all my vaccuum lines up using two diagrams (one for the car, one for the b16) and used a combination of the old lines from both to hook it together. one of more could be leaking from all the pushing pulling and twisting, but the only hissing noise when the car is turned off is the intakes "foooosh". i didnt think of a weak pump (it works right? :P) but the filter is new. i'll have to throw a pressure tester on it and see where its at, wait to find a header and downpipe, and maybe just buy all brand new vaccuum line and replace it all.

Re: 93 si swapped b16a, strange bog?

with modding the flange, i had welded it the 15 degrees, but theres an inner and outter pipe inside it. I could have sealed the small space between them so at least its still the stock one

and i'll also be going for a spirited run to see if the cold affected it entirely, its +16 out today and i havent seen if it bogs with it this warm out. i'll be checking back once i have

I had a very similar problem. It actually ended up being the intake (as dumb as it sounds). The ring clamps that that hold the vacuum line to the intake were very loose. I tightened them up and the bog/throttle hesitation problem went away. May not be your problem, but its something to consider!

so it may be leaning towards some vacuum lines somewhere.....
