Hi,
Looking to buy my first civic 7gen. for a commuter car. I have been looking at cars with around 120K-130K miles on them. I was leaning towards getting a Manual transmission as I fear high mileage might be an issue with the auto tranny. Any truth to this? I would have no prob with an auto trans. but have been warned that its the weak point of Honda cars for the most part. Not sure if this is true as I have never owned a Honda. Thanks for any and all info! Are any 7 gen year in particular better than the others?

The autos had a particularly bad batch in 7th gens. Search my username 6 months to a year ago and you can read for hours of my saga with mine. I did the work myself, so it didn't cost me much, but it was a serious pain. The EX autos were particularly bad, I think the BMXA was the worst, which I think is EX only. The manuals aren't without glitches, but overall you can expect better longevity out of them, not to mention better mpg. If its any answer to your question I have an 01 EX with an auto and would love to buy a wrecked manual to take all the guts out of to put in mine. It is what it is, its not a Cadi, but its otherwise a great car. The tranny IS the downfall of this generation for sure. If you do go for an auto get an 04-05, Honda knew they had problems by then and fixed alot of what ales the autos....
