Problems after a complete tune-up

Ever since I got a complete tune-up on my car, my car starts getting a rough idle and shakes while in idle after the engine has warmed up and at times it shuts off while it shakes in idle, I think it could be my timing belt that was not adjusted properly but I am not sure. Honda told me my engine mount and my transmission mounts are broken but that doesn't explain the reason why my car shuts off. Any ideas?

thanks

Try the learning idle procedure.

Will that fix the low rpms and the car shutting off on me?

What did they do for a "full" tune up?

+1

I ran into similar issues when I did my oil pump & water pump replacement. And the idle learning procedure cured it.

Read other threads and this seems to solve erratic idling and/or stalling issue. Weird if you ask me cuz it sounds like an misaligned ignition issue.

Re: Problems after a complete tune-up

it may be something with the fuel injection, try to pour a bottle of lucas fuel cleaner in the gas tank and see if it helps. If the spark plugs that you changed during tuneup are not gapped properly, this can also cause issues like that

agreed check your plug gap, also do the idle learning procedure. just easy things to check before i tell you your timing is probably off by a couple teeth...but check those first then take it back and tell them it idles rough

Re: Problems after a complete tune-up

btw DO NOT use fuel cleaner while doing the idle learn. you need straight gas, whatever kind you get ie. regular premium super. but most cleaners raise the fuel octane also...meaning your teaching your car thats the fuel your going to give it to run, and your car thinks that what you will always use, but it wont be as efficient burning the fuel once you fill back up without the cleaner.

also if you dont have a spark plug gapper get one. their pretty cheap and useful. just for reference my ngk iridium plugs were "pre-gapped" at .044, BUT i checked them and some were .038. may not seem like much but this can cause rough idle.

Re: Problems after a complete tune-up

For my tune up i used everything OEM and i had a mechanic do it for me... So idk how they were gapped. Also how could the idle learning procedure ruin the car after a tune-up? does it some how get "reset" or something?

Re: Problems after a complete tune-up

no the idle learning procedure is for the ecu to "re-learn" the fuel curve for whatever you have done to it. it wont ruin the car at all. you pull the fuse out for the ecu to reset it. i dont remember exactly the procedure to put it into idle learning tho. if you hit up gearbox he knows.

Re: Problems after a complete tune-up

I do beleive this is all you need to do. Let me know if i am wrong tho.

Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio
unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are turned off,
then start the engine.
• Let the engine reach its normal operating
temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
• Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and
with all electrical items off ) for 10 minutes.
Shut off the engine.
