Hi fellow civic enthusiasts, I know that the 9th gen civic uses the same engine and tranny but it gets alot better gas mileage. Is this due to using 0w-20 motor oil and low rolling resistance tires? The 8th gen uses 5w-20, anyone using 0w-20 with better mpg?

0w-20 does net better gas mileage, it's just a bit more expensive and harder to find than 5w-20 or at least was when the 8th gen was released. I've heard 0w has been recommended by Honda in Europe and Japan for a few years already.

Does anyone know what the oil change interval is if your using 0w-20 since it is fully synthetic vs 5w-20 which is conventional?

its mostly the fluids and tires, possibly a bit of aerodynamics. i have seen hybrid civics with a difference of 10mpg just on the tire choice. dw1 full syn atf, 0w20 full syn (or blend in some cases) motor oil. i have to admit im really skeptical about using these lower weight oils. 5w30 has always been the best all around oil even for a new honda. i suppose you can use a 0w30 if you live in colder climates, but going to a 20 hot weight is eventually gonna catch up to you. i remember at first they were only recommending this for hybrids, now its for all the civics and the engine designs have not changed between then and now.
