02 civic lx, engine cranks but doesn't turn over. Please help
Ok, I new to the forum and have been fighting with this issue for about a month after trying numerous things. My problem is sometimes my civic will crank and not turn over. I have to let it sit for about 20 minutes before it does. I changed the fuel filter and the crank case position sensor thinking that would do the trick and it did not. Tune up did not work neither. I do not have the flashing green key light on the dash so thats not the problem either with the immoblization unit. Can't be the battery the engine cranks strong. Any other ideas, im lost on this and running out of things to check? Please help

You must be from the south. Engine turns over, but doesn't start. CRANK is confusing to everyone that isn't from the south....
That said, the first order or business is to check your fuel pressure. Sounds like its not coming up. If it's fine check for fire next. Go from there....

you should have a Chip Key.. Mighta lost its program. try a different key. or go to a walmart tell them you want a duplicate key made.. if they tell you its only 2.00 or so.. your key has lost its chip program. should be a 49.95 key to duplicate.
we just had a spare made at walmart last night.
Mustangs have a similar chip key that has a resistance chip. they call it a "pats" lock system.
No chip key results in engine turning over but not starting/running.

but yes. The easiest way to tell if you have/need a chip key is when you first turn the key there should be a green key-shaped light
that comes on in your gauge cluster. It's called an immobilizer system, for good reason I might add. The first car with that system was the 98 Honda prelude. Your civic is the second year they had the system on civics.

no green key light on the cluster equals.. try another key, or have a locksmith code you a new chipkey.
or you can tow it to the dealer and pay stupid crazy money for them to cut you a new key and program it.
when you turn the key forward does the green key light on the left side of the cluster light up for a few seconds? or when you turn the key off it should light up.

(FWIW, both of my old 98 accords had this system too). I had one of them lose the "programming" in the key and not exactly sure what caused it (magnets?). Regardless, I bought a new OEM key and had it cut and coded at the honda dealer and it solved my problems.
