D17A1 auto to D17a2 manual. Viable? Cost?

I've been reading about these swaps and I was thinking that my main issue is the auto tranny,., so that should go first. But How much would it cost to swap from auto to manual? the vtec head would come later on... whenever budget allows. The thing is, whenever the head and tranny swap is done, how much money woul be put in and would it be worth? Any input would be greatly appreciated

Re: D17A1 auto to D17a2 manual. Viable? Cost?

It would probably cost around $2000-2500 dollars to do an auto-to-manual. Swapping to a d17a2 doesn't make much sense, just do a head swap.

So you think that the manual tranny would give me more usable power? I mean, is it worth the 2k?

I think with the value of our cars, swapping trannies isn't worth it. It's a huge expensive job. If I were you and I just couldn't stand the auto, I'd sell the car and get a manual one.

Plus the money you put into swapping the tranny wouldn't add to your resale value so i would do what Brian said

Re: D17A1 auto to D17a2 manual. Viable? Cost?

actually, it would likely detract significantly from resale value.

i think that was faked but if he was actually "under" and making those sounds and shifting, that'd be awesome!

Damn, I can't even go to youtube to see the link, neither can I see any pics if you guys post them up, I'm on a restricted computer .
But yeah, i was thinking about selling this one and buying a manual one, but I know my car cuz I'm the first owner and if I buy one from someone else God knows what type of problems I run into. But I guess that's the risk I have to take huh.

Maybe I should get an 04-05 to have the newer front end

Re: D17A1 auto to D17a2 manual. Viable? Cost?

that's the thing.
It's worth if you have spent too much already on your car or you reeealy want to keep it. Then it's worth doing.
Myself i have all the suspension stuff, CAI, headlights, rebuilt trans, head gasket, timing belt, camshaft and love me car. not likely i will sell it.
but again, i traded me 01 LX auto for the 02 EX manual to have a better platform to work on.

Re: D17A1 auto to D17a2 manual. Viable? Cost?

Are you asking me?

If so, that is a moot point. That was more than half a decade ago, and it depend on region, your car condition, the target car condition, etc, etc.
Just search what you have available in your area...
Same thing you did when shopping fer your current car
