05 blown engine, questions about what im swaping in
First time poster. Hello guys.
My son's Civic engine is toast. He said it was making some noises and had lost alot of power. When I went to listen, it sounded like the rods were about to come out the side of the block. I pulled the oilpan off only to find metal shavings in the bottom. So out it came. 96k mile D17A1 gone. Was my sisters car first, honda serviced from day one.
I purchased a salvage engine the next day, 90k miles. I have it ready to swap in but noticed the salavage motor doesn't have what I think is an EGR valve. When I go to sawp the two colant housings, i see this new motor has alot of oil setting inside the left EGR port. Do you think this is bad. In the pictures I had cleaned it up already, but alot of oil came out.
You guys think this new engine is ok? I did put in a new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump.
Lets hope my pictures show up.
It is a possibility that this engine was sitting on it's side of upsidedown in the salavage yard shop, it had already been pulled from a car.

Re: 05 blown engine, questions about what im swaping in
Tomorrow im going to go ahead and put it in and just take the risk. I'll post back with how it works out. Was just hoping someone had an idea why oil would have collected in that area going to the EGR. Like I said, this motor doesn't seem to have an EGR valve originally, so maybe that's why oil had collected there, or perhaps the engine just sat on it's side too long. I'd rather not tear it down if i don't have to.
