140 miles a day commute

Hey guys, I just bought a 2011 Coupe a couple of weeks ago. I work in a different city from which I live so I commute about 140 miles each day (70 miles each way). My question is, I'm currently at 3000 miles. Should I go ahead and change my oil or should I wait until the 5000 mile complimentary first service? I keep hearing not to make the first oil change at 3000 miles so that the rings can be seated properly in the engine. Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else.

I'd wait the 5 g's and move closer to where you work, even if your driving a Civic the price of gas is going through the roof.

True enough. We might be seeing $5 a gallon by Q1 of 2012

I would wait until 5k.

Using 5K intervals my OLM has always read 30%-40% remaining each time.

Make sure they give you a new oil filter also.

Re: 140 miles a day commute

Now since I am doing such a long commute and am racking up miles fast on the Civic, would it be good idea to go with synthetic oil so I don't have to change my oil as often?

Re: 140 miles a day commute

I was told by the dealer not to use synthetic oil....with no reason...your call, but I would investigate and make up your own mind.

Re: 140 miles a day commute

Honda dealers don't recommend synthetic oil, because it's not part of required maintenance on any Honda engine, in reality it's performance is significantly better than any dino oil and there is unlimited evidence to support that.

When dealers give advice like that, just use common sense and ignore them. Can you imagine saying yes to every service they recommend?

(PS - that avoid a lot of the idiots that think a duct tape is enough to hold a ball-joint, that is one advantage...)
