Installing trunk release
Installing trunk release
How hard is it to Install a trunk release in our cars? Does anybody have DIY on this. People are trying to charge me $100 bucks to do this. I found the some trunk release kits on Ebay, are they any good? Would apprecite help in doing this. I also need to hook it up to my Clifford alarm system. Thanks
The hard part is installing a trunk pop solenoid. After that, you have to wire the solenoid to an option on your car alarm. If you don't know exactly what you are doing, it can be pretty hard. 100 bucks isn't a bad deal, if I were doing it, i'd probably have them install it. (I have no clue about rewiring stuff)

i've been wanting to do this too. doesn't sound too hard. you need like a 11lb solenoid. a cheap one is about $20 n a good one (autoloc) is about $35.
installation...(i'm not exactly sure but i'm pretty sure)
as you know the trunk opens by a cable pulling on the latch. the solenoid is going to do the pulling... so you hook up the cable from the solenoid to the trunk latch(i'm sure you'll find out where too tie it when you look at the latch). n if you want it to work with the remote, you hook up the 'solenoid' to a 'relay' to the 'alarm'. most alarms have that extra channel for things like this.

yes i have this on my car and its great but i wouldnt suggest you try doin this yourself unless you have a bit of knowledge about installing alarm systems. 100 bucks is a good deal so if thats all they are gonna charge you jump on that why fry your car wires trying to save 40 buck? know what i mean?
no i dont sorry i just let the install guy do it, but from what i saw you have to find the alarm system control box and then find an open channel then wire the solenoid to that im not sure if the factory system has an open channel, i put in an after maket alarm and did this all at one time, also had a another 2 other open channels so i installed window relays so i can roll down my windows by remote and my neons are hooked up to it also. just depends on how many channels are left in your system

i doubt you could fry your wires. your using a relay. n i dont remember where i got the instructions but heres a link to the trunk popper http://www.autoloc.com/detail.lasso?itemid=PT1000 it comes with an instruction manual, extra cable, wires, basically everything to make it work. n autoloc is probably the best company for solenoids.

oh when you diy, make it so that you'll be able to use both the solenoid and the manual one. cause ya what if the solenoid doesnt work. you want to be able to pull it and open like how it does now
Has anybody gotten the trunk relaese kits from ebay? are they any good? I'm planning on getting a autoloc trunk release kit and doing it myself. But wanted to know if anybody knows about those ebay ones
