Sticky gas pedal - 99 civic
Sticky gas pedal - 99 civic
I have been dealing with this problem for a while now and just kept ignoring it - but its at the point where I can't get smooth acceleration from my car.
I heard this might be related to a very dirty throttle body and should be cleaned?
Is there a DIY pics/video on how to clean your throttle body?
Thanks!

you should be able to clean most of it by spraying carb cleaner all around. just take the intake off, spray carb cleaner in there and wipe off any black stuff. can also spray the lever/cable mechanism to clean it off, then once it dries spray silicone lube on it so it moves freely. check your gas pedal arm too and lube that up.

Ok - Thanks gearbox. So there should be no need to remove the throttle body outright and clean, can be done without removal?
If the pedal is still 'stiff' any other tips/tricks?
thanks,

worst case you might have a sticking cable, which is alot more work and possibly need replacement. usually if the throttle plate is sticking, its around where the valve meets the body. just open and close it to be sure the cleaner works around the plate. dont use the car for a few hrs so any cleaner has a chance to evaporate. you can also lube the gas pedal assembly in the back, maybe there are sticking parts there too.

I'm not sure about the other years of 6th gen civics, but on my '96 LX, there was a recall on it for the sticking gas. Just bring it to your closest Honda dealer and they will fix it free of charge
Re: Sticky gas pedal - 99 civic
Lube up the gas pedal cable with white lithium grease (might harm rubber stuff but worked for me) or silicone grease with a goober on your finger, do it in the cabin on 1 side of the firewall, the other side of the firewall and make sure it is fully lubed from gas pedal up to gas pedal to the floor and also the cable at the airbox. Should be nice and smooth.
Lube all locks and ignition 1nce a year with dry graphite powder lock lube.
