2001 Vtec Head?

How much would it cost to buy a 2001 Vtec head that is ported and polished?

Re: 2001 Vtec Head?

It all depends on what your trying to go for. Guys have made near 500hp with the motor we all got from the factory.

Do you need 500hp... no.

Would someone spend around 5k to swap a motor.. not if they got their head on straight, they could just buy the car with that motor already in it with a much better suspension setup and interior.

Which k20? The one out of the base rsx and the civic si arent very impressive, but props to the k20a kuz they are due!

Yes, a k20 is a better motor if your looking for all out insane performance. Anyone with a civic probably doesnt have the money to max the whole potential of a k20a, and if they did, why would they put it in a civic.. and yes, i'm aware of the sleeperness of a k20 civic, but they are whatever... seen a k20 lotus? Thats whats up.

Everyones quick to say swap or k20. But most people on this site can barely afford anything.. were young, we dont have a lot of money, so we buy a civic because we couldnt get a cooler car. So we upgrade what we go. ... we upgrade what we got.

Maybe I'm a little bitter because I cant put a k20 in my car. My engine bay is big enough, but my bank account isnt... my bad if this came across as taking it out on you.

A lot is two words btw

A k20 in a lotus is whats up, i have seen a mr2 with the k20a in it and it was damn bad a.

But ya i to have to say that the k20a3 is not impressive cause i have it, but there is ways to get up there with the k20a2 and the k20a easy. You can buy the k20a3 for fairly cheap probably bout 1500 or less, and you can do this thing that the guys on ephatch is doing. The have proven that the a3 does have potential. It is called the vtec killer. First off if not known the a3 does not have true ivtec it is called ivtec-e which instead of bout 5k rpms kick in it does it at 2200 rpms and gradually goes up its really hard to hear the change over. But the concept is grabbing the k24a2 camshafts and cams and throwing them in the a3 which this will give it true ivtec yes but another thing you have to do is either convert to k24a2 rocker arms or the cheap way if you are a good mechanic is shave part of the rocker arm of so that the vtec cam lobe can pass over the rocker arm. And by doing this the numbers match the ones of the k20a2. The only other thing to do is to upgrade the valves.

With this and being able to have the a2 numbers the price would be 1500k for the motor and 300 for the rest. But the only other thing is you would have to purchase kpro which is 900. But with this price you really cant beat it. So really there is hope for the a3 after all.

And na you didnt come about taking it out on me its all good. I mean i know what it is like to have the bank acount problem. I wish i had the money to do some stuff to mine but i have to save to do it. But next year i will have the money saved to where i can throw the k24a2 in my ep. Getting that and kpro and it will run me round 2800 not to bad but will be worth it.

Re: 2001 Vtec Head?

^ its two gearbox.

BTW, the whole changing the cams is pretty cool. How many people are able to find someone selling the rocker arms tho? I think you would have to buy the entire head and pull out what you want.

True bout the rocker arms, kinda the reason we came up with the shaving of the a3 rocker arms. We came up with a good cheap way of keeping the shavings out of the bearing. Get some bazooka bubble gum and chew it for a little then place the bubble gum over the bearing and the cracks and then just shave the edge down and the shavings cant get in there. Kinda thinking out of the box idea there but it works great.
