Question New Subs...LOTS of outside rattling.

I just recently put a box in the trunk of my 2000 civic with two 12" sony xplods. The bass sounds phenomenal inside with the slightest rattling that come front my windows. (gears im guessing since it stops when i roll em up er down a lil. any hints on that would be great too. heh) But my main concern is the MASS amount of rattling outside the car. I really dont want to spend too much money on it if i can (like dynamat er w/e), but i would like it to quit sounding like sh*t. Suggestions?

Re: New Subs...LOTS of outside rattling.

there are simple things you can do. usually big rattles come from the license plate (use some nylon/sponge/rubber washers behind the plate mounting bolts), and the trunk can be closed tighter by adjusting the rubber stoppers on the lid and also the latch on the bottom. same thing with all the doors, use the rubber stoppers so they close tighter.but most importantly, go aound the car with the subs on and see where its rattling.

dynamat extreme= the shizz, i have it on my trunk, license plate, and over my exhaust it helps a ton! you only use like a sguare inch per square foot so it doesn't cost much to do the trunk lid, i used like 5 square inches for everything.

Re: New Subs...LOTS of outside rattling.

www.b-quiet.com the bquiet ultimate is slightly better than dynamat and much cheaper. but if you want to reduce road noise, goto home depot and get a huge piece of their thickest carpet foam padding (for putting under house carpeting). that stuff is really cheap and works great. the bquiet stuff and other dynamat based tar mats are mostly to reduce panel resonance. this is okay to use, but usually 25% coverage of a panel is all you need. it will not block road noise, it simply stops the metal panels from vibrating as much. you still need a sound barrier like the carpet padding for stopping noise.

Re: New Subs...LOTS of outside rattling.

i got 2 alpine type R 12" running off a 1K watt JL amp. the biggest rattle for me was the subs broke the spot weld that held the bracket @ the middle of the trunk tention springs. now they rattle agenst them selfs if not my sock inbetween them lol.

also had a problem with the trunk it's self rattaling at the latch. adjust it down to get a tighter seal. harder to close but easy fix.

licance plate is another common one. some packing peanuts behind it solved that.

and the last big one was the rear shelf it's self. OMG that was a pain to get out. ended up taking a brand new beachtowel and cut holes in it for the speakers and mounts then rubercemented it to the lid then reinstalled it. been working great for over a year how
