Civic Cluster Color Change

I found a thread that explained how to change the color that lights up the cluster simply by putting in a colored plastic in place of the stock one.

http://www.d-series.org/forums/diy-f...e-cluster.html

I was wondering if this works the same for 1997 civic.
I couldn't seem to locate the stock one. help please

Re: Civic Cluster Color Change

depends on the cluster. our 92 accord uses the blue filtered white light from the top like that, and also separate backlighting behind the numbers. some only have a film behind the numbers, or it could be painted on like the newer civics. i think older civics use just backlighting and its part of the gauges plastic. you may be able to clear it carefully from the back with acetone and put different film, but you can really only do this with warmer colors like yellow/red/orange, the darker colors will not be bright enough cause incandescent emits most of its light in the warm side.

LoL, I saw that thread over there too. Our cluster has that filter too. You can swap it out for another one just like what the OP in that thread did. If you simply change the color of those bulbs or add covers to them and you don't mess with the filter, then you will not really see a difference since that stock filter is so dark. If anything you'll make the output worse.

Yeah. If you look on top of your gauge cluster you'll see the board that holds the two lamps that light up the cluster. When you remove that board you'll be able to see the filter.
