1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe - What can I do?

My uncle just gave this car to me, it's only got 100K miles but a rebuilt title. I'll have to look at a CARFAX or something later.. I really really like way this car picks up. I drive an '00 Focus and this car feels like a bullet compared to it. I was wondering what PERFORMANCE mods I can do to it at a relatively cheap price - that will give it more speed. It's automatic so I know it wont perform to peak, but that's okay. No cosmetic mods now (kit / rims / aftermarket lights) I just wanna know really small, cheap mods I can do to this car to make it a little faster.

Thank you so much! I'm hoping to learn a lot and be a constructive member of this forum - sorry for the newbie questions!

You have to keep in mind it is a Civic. There aren't many mods you can do to it to make it faster without spending a butt load of money on it. You can start with exhaust/intake. Cheaper mods would be to the head - cam gears, hotter cam, etc, but even these will cause problems if not properly done. If you really want to make a difference a turbo, supercharger, or engine swap are where it's at. Search around a little bit, you will find something that you can do that will suit your style. Congrats on the new car, post some pics!

Re: 1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe - What can I do?

After some looking around, for cheap intakes + exhausts. I see that exhausts range from 30$ to 400$ (ebay motors).. do some increase HP + Torque more than others? Are there any specific brands I should look for? Most are stainless steel and others are aluminized steel. Which is better? Also some come with only the muffler + some come with a muffler and an additional bar that connects to it, would I need the entire kit? Or only the muffler?.... I'll go look around at intakes.

I'm really really sorry for the questions, but maybe one day I can help someone in my position, you know?

Thanks again.

No problem, but really a simple search will help you tremendously. There are some threads that this was discussed on earlier this week.

If you're thinking about a header, this helped me:

http://reviews.ebay.com/Headers-buyi...00000004874346

I would also invest in some FP Plus and LC20. Thank you to Gearbox for showing me the light!!!

Man up... build the bottom end and put together a junkyard turbo, $3,000 later you can worry about cosmetics... wish I would've done this

Re: 1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe - What can I do?

For about 800 bucks on ebay i got a:

Apexi WS2 Catback exhaust
Injen Intake
and Magnflow cat

Thats about all im going to to my Civic performance wise (it is a daily driver)

It is a civic its not going to be fast without putting a lot of money into it focus on just making it look sweet and maybe a sound system thats wat im doing

Re: 1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe - What can I do?

You can do a lot to make it better. but since it is an ex. its kinda depressing.

not that ive never seen a realy fast ex. cuz i have.

but i would consider you getting an intake (short ram) with a quiet exhaust. not to loud cuz ex civics tend to sound like crap when you get a loud one on there.

you can port the intake and exhaust. and even do an angle valve job. preferably a 5 angle.

good luck.
