Short ram intake or cold air intake???
Re: Short ram intake or cold air intake???
Short ram will intake engine heat, more likely to get "heat soak" .. cold air is obvious, but you risk water intake, though not too likely with a decent trap, just avoid Deep waters..... Short ram = cheaper , cold air = more $$$ .. for a decent setup that is. There's prob' more, but I need to get going on some errands...
Re: Short ram intake or cold air intake???
Short Ram
Pros: Cheaper, no risk of waterlock, easier install, easier maintance
Cons: Pulling air from the engine bay, no real advantage over cold air
Cold Air
Pros: Pulling cooler air from outside the engine bay
Cons: Risk of waterlock, more difficult to install and maintain
You have to ask yourself what you're trying to accomplish. If this is your DD, you're probably better off buying a short ram. The gains are minimal with each. Also, if you're running a D series motor, an expensive intake is a silly mod. I'd save the money and go with a short ram if I was in your shoes.
