00' Civic - loose shifter

Hey all

Juist bought a 00' Civic in early Feb with about 103k miles with two previous owners. The car itself runs great, but even in gear, I can wiggle the shifter at least an inch in either direction. I had my older brother shift the car with it off and I found a cable underneath the car that moved everytime the car shifted. What is this cable called, and is it the answer to my problem? I would like to try and tighten up this wiggle room.

Hello,

Your car does not have a cable actuated shifter (unless it's an automatic). For manual shifters, sometimes the linkage bushings can rot or become damaged in some way. Replace those inexpensive items and you will be much happier.

Gotcha. Is it easy to access these bushings? Where can I find an exploded view of my car's transmission? I assume I can access these bushings by simply taking off the boot, it would seem improbable that I would have to drop out the transmission in my car to get to them.

The aforementioned bushings are at the shifter, not at the transmission. I'd look at www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or www.hondapartsdeals.com for a view of the shifter and it's pieces. They are accessible from under the car.
