1994 Civic Wont start and overheats!
Hello. So I have this civic. Its a 1.5 liter single overhead cam. I am having problems with it. It all started with it overheating. I jumped the fan so It would stay on constantly, and changed the the T-stat and temp sensor. Still overheated. Later I got to start it and the battery was dead, So i jumped it, and started right up. Then go to shut it off and it didnt start again, Just kept ctranking. Im prety sure the coil went bad on it. Im going to try the externam coil mod on it to make life easier. But the overheating thing is the real issue. After it didnt start I did a compression test on it. Compression was great. I pulled the distributor off to test the ignitor. I got a new one. Still didnt start. But the i noticed that it turned over really easy. Did another compression test on it and i hardly had anything!!! And from the time i tested it the first time until now It wasnt running. All i did was pull the distributor off!! I did a leakdown and it seemed like air was leaking through other cylinders, like pressure comming out the plug hole on the companion cylinder... What is going on here??? Did the head gasket blow or was about to and just let go without even running? bad waterpump? Rad clogged I have no clue! Any help would be great, I just dont get this at all.
Thanks, Tyler
Thanks, Tyler

im having a similar problem on my 94 ex. i changed the intake gasket and when i did it got coolant in the number 4 cyclinder. fixed all that then plugs weren't firing. replaced plugs, coil, rotor, cap, and wires. now its getting spark but it wont start. when it cranks the engine jumps. sounds like we have a common problem

well ignition timing i think you need the timing gun and you shoot it in the hole near the trans case where the belt is turning. i really have no idea to be honest, my car doesnt use distributor. cam timing you check by making sure all the marks like up on the cam gear and crank pulley. its pretty complicated and you prolly need a repair manual.

Take it to a shop and get them to do it... You need special tools and it's a special procedure designated for special people... I had a 1992 honda accord with an H22A and I pulled the distributer without lining it up with marker and the same thing happened. Because of it I lost compression in 2 cylinders...

our 92 accord was very lucky, the distributor melted and it threw the timing off by about 20 degrees. engine would start, but would feel like nothing is happening when you gas it. thankfully the engine was perfectly fine once they timed it.
