question about 99 civic LX

A friend of mine is thinking about buying a 99 civic sedan LX with 100k miles through private party. I did a test drive for her and found a couple things suspicious. The car is advertised on CL as "99 honda civic sedan LX". The "LX" emblem is not there on the rear. Ok so I think it's probably the rear has been replaced and they didn't put it back there. The second thing is it does not have power windows. I thought only DX has no power windows or is that not true for 6th Gen?

Carfax shows that it's a 1999 HONDA CIVIC/SE (spec: SEDAN 4 DR 1.6L L4 PFI SOHC 16V FRONT WHEEL DRIVE). What is CIVIC/SE? I only see models EX, LX, DX, VP for 99 civic at edmunds.com and kbb.com. Missing emblem is one thing. The thing that I worry the most is that is this seller selling it as a LX which it it not?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: question about 99 civic LX

I have a 98 LX, it has power windows and power mirrors. It's pretty much the same thing as a DX except it has the 'user friendly options'. I agree with you, it seems pretty suspicious. I would say wait for another deal, if those are the only 'noticable' differences, you don't know what else is wrong with it.

Re: question about 99 civic LX

Never heard of an SE either.... that's wierd. I have seen strange things on titles or registration reciepts though. I guess the best thing to do is see if there is something better out there for the money and choose based on that, but whatever you guys do don't get in a hurry. That is possibly the worst thing you can do.

Re: question about 99 civic LX

I just inherited a car. it had no badges so i looked up the vin number on www.decodethis.com and it said it was a VP and then i checked carfax and it said a SE. I have the same issue. only thing that i noticed that's weird is that it said made in canada. I know it has a 1.6 SOHC engine though. I just wanna know if its a D16, B16, etc.....
