That lil' clear reflector in the corner of the headlights...
Anyone ever remove it while clearing headlights? I have a slightly janked headlight that was my friends and I messed around with it and took the lil' reflector out. I think the headlight looks better without it. Though I hugely doubt it, that's not gonna cause any problems with the law, right?
As long as you have an amber bulb it should be fine. I am just running a clear bulb though so if the cops wanna be picky, they will just nail me for that. The reflector shouldn't matter. (I think it might make the light a little brighter though because it would reflect off of it???)
TECHNICALLY, you need a front relector on the front side of your car... any color. I haven't messed with my headlamps yet, but if taking out that amber reflector means there is no reflector in the front headlamp than yes it is illegal.
BUT, in the day time I don't think a cop can spot it, and in the night time, as long as you have an amber bulb you are good to go.
Just make sure a cop doesn't pull you over for anything else and then seeing no reflector and writes you an addition $40 ticket.

LOL, WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE ORANGE SIDE-MARKER! This is NOT a clearing headlights issue!
Look at the bottom corner of the headlight... there's a clear shiny reflector there. I want to remove it... and I did... ok, I'll take pictures. Hold up...

okay, so ya... if you take that reflector off and there is nothing reflecting off that headlamp it IS ILLEGAL, although i doubt you'll ever get caught for it.
(cause other drivers have to see a refector if your lights are off at night) But I say do it... you'll probably never get caught... unless a cop pulls you over for something else and just happens to see you dont have a reflector.
Example: you are parked somewhere at night and people are driving around in the parking lot.. you gotta reflect their headlights.

I'm debating... Do aftermarket projectors have reflectors? I think on the side, the TYC Projectors have them (ain't it orange?)
EDIT: I had a crazy idea of spray painting it the color of the car (or somewhere along those lines) cuz I have hyperwhite parking and hyperwhite turn signals. I dunno... but then again... nahhhhhh, that's an easy fixing ticket. (And a harder to see reflector.)

yeah I saw that when I was clearing my headlights and I had to actually pop that back in because it came partially out when I popped out the orange piece. But yeah now the headlight looks like those Euro Clear Corners that have no reflector at all. Definately looks good though, I doubt you would have any issues unless the cop had you pulled over and wanted to be a real pain in the

I was thinking the exact same thing.
hehe, this reminds me of stripping all the reflectors off my mountain bikes.

uh guys, just a question, but won't it reflect ANYWAY, its a chrome light. that little piece just sends the light in all directions which is more noticeable, but it still reflects either way.

Wow, this thread is old... but I guess that happens in these parts of the forums...
I decided to keep it on there for safety issues.
The reflector does add some kind of safety... I wouldn't be afraid to leave it off but rather be safe than sorry. But I dunno, I would think that since the headlight is all chrome, it would relfect anyways, but I guess not that much from afar and that's why the reflector is there.

Yes it is illegal, must have an AMBER REFLEX reflector on the front/side of the vehicle. Secondly if you remove that reflector, and the someone clips the front of your car at night it could be proven that it was due to your vehicle not meeting the vehicle code because of your tampering and therefore NO MATTER WHAT you're gonna be responsible for the accident. Peace

Not in Cali. That orange sidemarker is NOT under law here. It's just the color of the bulb which must range from white to amber. Thus making cleared headlights legal in this state.

I couldn't agree with you more with this which is why I kept the reflector on.
