B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
Hello everyone. I did a B16A Swap into my 2000 Civic. As the swap is done I am haveing some issues with it running. The Engine is OBD1 and my Car is OBD2. When it starts it runs real rough and it has a wicked pulse in the idle. I checked all the Vacuum lines and I check the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) and they are ok. The distributor that cam with the engine was siezed up and I had to get a new one, but it said I needed to get a TD-44, but when I got it it doesnt work and the only Distributor That will work has ears in the way of the V-tech soliniod and you cant time the engine? Also the little pin that comes out of the Tranny that the Shift Linkage bolts to, is very lose so It is hard to find the gears and when it is in gear the shift lever can move side to side. Im not sure if the oin can be replaced or if I need a new Transmission? Any help from anyone who has done a swap like this would be awesome, the more input I can get the easier this swap will be to finish.
Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
Hey u might wanna try checkin out the Cruise Control man.
my swap was on a 00DX also. it did the exact same thing just had an up and down idle cuz most DXs dont have C.C. option. for that fact mine didnt have any options besides a/c but that may not even count nowa days.
hope this was usefull and GoodLuck.

i swapped a b16a into me 00 ex. Sounds like you might have your wires in the wrong order. I did the same thing intially when i did my swap. TD-44 im not sure what dizzy that is but all you need is the dizzy from a 00 si. Im using a p2t ecu in my swap right now and i'd recommend using that one for code scanning. You can check for codes on your OBDI if you want also but I used the OBD2 for simplicity. The swap was a nightmare homie, but i got mine straightened out and I love it. Try doing a couple things first:
+Make sure your wires are in the right order.
+Make sure the ecu your using isn't fooked ( i went through 4 ecus before i got one that worked well)
+Check your ecu for codes you should see a small blue plug tucked in a green rubber boot, take a wire and arc the connectors of the plug and put the key in the on position without starting the car. Count the number of blinks you get from the check engine light. Long blink is 10 short blink is one so 6 long blinks is 60 and five short blinks is 5 meaning code 65.
+check for vacuume leaks (which i think you already did)
Remember, often times the simplest is the solution.

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
let me know what happens. i had a hard time with my swap and nobody was much help since everyone does these swaps into eg's and the wiring is pretty different in our cars. i'll help you out any way i can
Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
Thanks man I will try a couple of these ideas. My engine is a JDM one so I dont know if the USDM Si Dist. will work we have one on there but we had to cut two of the ears that the bolts go through cause they where hitting the V-Tech. My ECU is a P30. I had my stock 00' dx Harness sent out to Rywire and they re wired it for V-Tech and then gave me a OBD2b to OBD1 Jumper for it. I will try a few of your sugestions but if you have anymore tht would work that would be sick. Thanks Again man.

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
im using a 92 b16a (JDM genII out of the SiRII) and im using a b16a2 (USDM dizzy from 00 Civic Si). Honestly its the best way to go. Also, make sure your wiring from the diz to the harness is right, As long as the wiring is done right to the harness, then you shouldn't have any problems.

thats the wiring bit. Is your B16a OBD0 or OBD1? that will help a lot too. Look on the head and you'll see three circles with the production dates stamped on them. Like mine says 08 25 92 August 25 1992 etc. If you don't have a plug wire backwards you may have a dizzy plug in the wrong spot. Also, if your not using the right diz your computer is going to **** a brick. You have to use either a P30 dizzy (94-96 Del Sol DOHC VTEC) or a P2T dizzy (99-00 Civic Si dizzy) There really is no other way around it unless someone figure out something I haven't. If you cut the ears off the diz you may have trouble timing it in the future. I know the OBD1 b16A also uses colder plugs than the US B16A2. The Gen2 B16a had 10.4 compression vs the 10.1 in the previous versions and also uses a slightly more aggressive cam profile. The diagram above really helped, and you also may have to do a CKP/CKF mod to fool the ecu into thinking the second crank sensor is there. I may be telling you what you already know but the JDM model B16a (Gen1) only had 1 crank sensor in the dizzy (thats why using a B16 dizzy is really helpful) while the us models and the gen2 (i beleive) had two, one in the dizzy and one in the oil pump. The one in the oil pump is a crank fluctuation sensor, while the one in the dizzy is a crank position sensor. The CKF is a hard code which means if it trips, your car will run like utter ****. This is how to do the CKP/CKF mod

hope some of this helps. And like I said a few times before, use a 99-00 Si dizzy, or a 95-96 b16 del sol dizzy. Trust me mate, it will really make your life easier.

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
oh and as far as the shifter being sloppier than a 60 year hooker, the pin is 2.50 at honda, you have to pull the old one out (if there even is one in there) and put the new one in. Tell them you need the spring clip that goes between the linkage arm and the tranny gear piston and they'll show you on a diagram. Part number 18 here

like i said seriously less than 3 dollars. Get under the car and hammer it into place (there is really no other way to do it) get the energy suspension shift improver kit while your at it it really make THAT much of a difference. I have one on my EX with a skunk2 **** and a fidanze shifter and i love it, wouldn't trade it for anything in the world (except maybe an s2000 haha. That will fix that.

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
****!!!! Just occurred to me, the reason why the diz you have wont fit on your head is because the diz you have is from a single cam. won't work in that case. The TD-44 is from a b16a del sol. Thats a working one, but the td-44, or td-84. I'd recommend using the td-84 since its the same one im using and i know for a fact it works on B16a heads.
Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
Yeah my ECU is from a Del Sol OBD1. And I did try the td-44 dist. but it didnt even turn over at all. I will try the td-84. When I check for codes will it tell me about the CKF code so I will know if I have to do that mod?

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
yeah you will get a code 54 i think on the p30 so 5 long blinks 4 short ones if it is the crank fluctuation sensor Code 9 if it is crank position sensor but i think it depends on your engine. I'm running a 92 B16a like i said and i didn't have to do the mod, so im not sure if someone put a ckf sensor on my engine or if the gen II already came with it. Let's start with the codes first and go from there
Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
Yeah I have a firring order Diagram. That is all good on my end lol. I do have a question I was looking and I have one Vacuum line out of my Intake manifold that is caped off. It is the smallest one on the top? Any idea where that might go to? I have looked and I cannot find any place it will run too? I will do the code check in a few days I am real busey the next couple of days, but as soon as I find the issue I will let you know. Thanks again for all the help.

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
depending on the manifold your using, you may have some unused ports. The main ones you need to have are one to the PCV, the IAC and the brake booster. Anything else is unused (i think one might go to the purge evap but i don't think your worried about emissions if your swapping a b16a into a 2000) you should have a line going from the iac to the tb too and one from the throttle body to a coolant line. Honestly, for quick small cheap hp boost, cap off the FITV nipples (from under the tb) and connect the two hoses together, you may get a slight idle wierdness but it keeps the tb cool which in turn keeps the intake air cool

Re: B16 SWAP Into 2000 DX
oh and you need a hose to your fuel pressure regulator. You would have a small one going to your cruis control but the dx didnt have one i dont think right?
