2002 Civic LX How to remove left Door Panel?
2002 Civic LX How to remove left Door Panel?
I have a 2002 Civic LX 2 Door that the lock tumbler dropped inside the door of. I need to figure out how to get the inside door panel (driver's side) off. I can't see any signs of screws. I did manage to get the Mirror cover off....
TIA

Re: 2002 Civic LX How to remove left Door Panel?
there should be a small panel where the door handle is to open the door from the inside. you have to pry that off with a small flat screwdriver, then remove the two screws under it. then the armrest handle part has a plastic cover that you need to pop off where the window switches are (the piece you remove is under the switches, not on top). then two more screws which are deep inside there and all you have holding the door panel on are plastic clips around the edges. so just yank and pull the panel from the bottom. once you have all the clips popped, you must lift the panel UP and over the window ledge and then it will be free once you unplug the window switch connector and power lock connector.

Your instructions worked perfectly, the Panel came off without a hitch. My problem now is that I can't figure out a way to get the tumbler back into the door handle assembly. Do I have to remove the handle assembly to get everything back together? If so how do I remove the actuating rods from both the door handle and the tumbler? They seem to be held on by 90 degree plastic clips but trying to pry them apart with a screwdriver wasn't successful.

Most of the clips to linkage will rotate to release and re-attach.
As far as the tumbler... You may need the help or the local locksmith.
I looked at the manual and it show the lock assembly held in place by a U shaped metal clip... maybe it came loose ?? The plastic clips look like the rotate to release type.

Can you look at the Manual and tell me whether or not there are two retaining clips? I found one that is attached to the Black plastic housing on the Door handle assembly that the tumbler goes into, but I can't find the one that goes to the tumbler itself. I'm thinking he put the clip in the wrong position and that's whey it failed (dropped out).

it may be at the bottom of the door if you reach around. or he never put it on. for the plastic rod clips, they should pry off and rotate. those are cheap if you break em anyway but ive removed em many times no problems.

Again thanks to both of you for your help. I will give it a go tonight or tomorrow (depending on weather) and will let you know how I make out.

Sorry about the time lag, busy at work.
Everything worked out well. I did it over the weekend and it is amazing what a little light can do. I had the whole thing done in the same amount of time that it took me to first take the panel off.
I want to thank you guys for all your help. It's much appreciated.
