Re: civic 93 4 door automatic not shifting properly

Automatic right? This sounds exactly like what my 91 civic did. Though I thought Honda fixed the problem in 91 and the 92's and up didn't have the problem.

So first and second gear the engine revs load with no acceleration until it hits the point of shifting... hard shift at that.

Your front pump seal inside your transmission is leaking, causing it to lose pressure in low gears. It can be fixed but unless you know transmissions it will cost more then to get another from the salvage yard. I recommend just getting use to the shifting patterns, you can go awhile before it goes out. my 91 civic had 300k miles, same engine, third transmission. Did the same damn thing on everyone! And that's why I get my civics in a 5 speed now.

Take the car to a mechanic that knows his civic transmissions, call around. Then verify what I told you before making any big investments.
