Torque wrenches very by design. To set mine, I pull the bottom out and twist it to the right ft lbs is aligned with the red triangle or line. Then i push it back in to set it. You then torque the bolt your working on until it clicks, at that point it reaches the specified ft lbs. ...When the wrench isnt in use, you should take the load off of it by setting it to zero, or however low it goes- this preserves its accuracy down the line.

well i feel stupid now i bought the inch pound one thats why i was confused i brought it back for a ft pound one but its the cheap one from advanced auto parts 30 bucks its a greatneck micrometer adjustable the cover says 30-100ft pounds but the wrench goes down to 10 also when i first opend it i couldent help playing with it and i turned the handle all the way past the lowest setting then i read the instructions and it said not to do that did i f**k it up should i return for another ?????????

Go get the foot lbs one... the inch pound one isnt what ya want. I never used an inch lb one, but I'd imagine you'd be doing some math with the #12 more then you'd like.

Also make sure that you take special care in not dropping it or banging it around because that may cause some issues with torque accuracy. Keep in mind that you may be sacrificing torque accuracy with a cheaper unit. Good luck with your purchase!
