tucking front wheels into fenders

i haven't found a thread about this. i have 18's and i want to eliminate my wheels hitting my fenders on bumps. without any mods the tire will make direct contact with the fender lips, so on the rear i was able to roll and slightly flare my quarter panel/bumper so the tires will tuck with clearance. on the front fenders they have the lip of the fender meeting that plastic splash crap, and i was wondering if anyone else has battled this? i don't want to buy a wide body kit, flared fenders, or different offset rims. no i don't want to have negative camber, and i'm not looking to lower it. right now i have an inch or 2 between the tires but over bumps or hard turns they rub.

and it's a 99 4door

thicker front sway bar or some tokiko blues struts is where i would start. something like that. i think 18's are a little large for this car but if you love them then im sure you will find a way to fix it.

I'm running 18s with a 215 tire on an EM2. I had the same problem as you until I installed a camber kit and got an allignment, all problems are gone. Try taking it to a shop and having your wheels aligned.

Re: tucking front wheels into fenders

i had 17's and hated them. id rather have my car lower to perform better then have huge heavy wheels on it. im only running 15's now and would never run anything bigger then a 205/45/16 if i were to get different wheels.

Re: tucking front wheels into fenders

well i was able to find a solution by the usual action, just getting my hands dirty. i popped out the inner fender and cut out the top section, leaving the front and rear parts of the inner splash guard attached to the car. that way when looking at it from outside you can't tell the splash guard is missing unless you're looking into the wheel well. then i just took a hammer/dolly to the lip and rolled it out. now i have the ability to tuck tire in there. if anyone wants pics i can provide some

Re: tucking front wheels into fenders

I have been told that one way to increase the clearance is to take a wooden pole, baseballbat, place it on top of the wheel where you need more clearance, load the wheel, have a few friends sit in the car...and the slowly roll the bat all the way to the back and the front again. Just make sure it's a wood pole.
