Post ? Maximum Horsepower ?

whats up everyone?
i owned a 2004 civic ex and i have it boosted. its the 1.7 engine and i was wondering whats the most HP and/or pounds of boost that engine can handle without changing any internals and not so much to where it will shorten the longevity of my engine, turbo, or any other component. i'm currently doing 7 pounds of boost and ive never had my car dyno-ed but id estimate that i have about 200 to 215 HP. thanks..

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

there are so many different variables and factors that affect the "longevity of ur engine, turbo, lines, comonents..ect" with a turbo. like the way you drive it, the weather conditions, wt kinda turbo/mods how its tuned...etc

and the fact that ur asking us such a subjective questions really tells us that you really dont know anything.

as a reference, a dezod force fed turbo @ 5psi without and internal upgrades will have 164whp. the fact that they dont highly recomend internal builds shows that its ok to run it everyday safely....not to mention dezod is trusted site/brand with their excellent...

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

^^ word. i think in general with a smaller sized turbo you wouldnt want to hit more than 9lbs of boost with a bone stock motor. its all in the tuning and how you treat it.

at 7 lbs in a d17 i doubt your anywhere close to your 200~ mark. with the most leet tuner you could possibly hit close to 200.

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

on a bone stock motor the ceiling is about 250 hp. the stock cam just wont make any more power after that no matter how much boost you run. quite a few people have gotten there but that seems to be the ceiling.

hahahah oh man I totally choked on my morning coffee when I read this.

In regards to the question at hand, your not even close to the 200-215 mark. I would say your more at the 160 mark. I would also say that stock internals should not be pushed past the 5-6psi mark. At 7 your kinda pushing it, the internals will handle it, but longevity might be an issue.

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

It's not the internals, it's the tune. That's the key. Andy proved you can run over 300whp on stock internals tuned on kpro with no issues at all.

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

well ive replaced the exhaust manifold to a bigger one but as far as the headers or pistons and rods. all those are stock.. ive had it turbocharged for 4 yrs now and no problems. only recently my battery was dead for awhile and now im running really rich, so im getting it retuned and was wondering how much harder i could push it and including everything i mentioned above. and ive just estimated my horsepower just by other cars ive raced and beat, like the VW GTI and SRT-4 which have around that much more or less. but now with my car outta tune those cars slowly pull on me in the higher gears.... and i always get mixed answers about how much you can put on my kind of engine.. http://www.cardomain.com/id/djaysin04 theres a link for more info and vids coming soon

^ you gotta remember that a EM2 weights 2405 lbs... those cars weight upwards to 3000...

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

What EMS are you running? Your cardomain page says "PDT Engine Management System", which I've never heard of nor is Google giving up the goods on it.

Bottom line is that I would not go above 9psi on a piggyback. You simply don't have enough control over what's going on in the engine to push more than boost than that.

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

The tune is 100% of how the kit will perform in reliability and what-not. Simple as that! A good tune on stock internals can be done so long as you keep the
detonation down. If it's using race gas, or conservative timing etc.....A good tune makes all of the difference in the world.

Re: ? Maximum Horsepower ?

if you got tuned then why dont you have a dyno sheet. o_O. lol. even if your battery went dead the tune should not get erased. unless your talking about maybe a battery in your tuning unit. im sure the tuner would be glad to re upload the same tune. most tuners save all the maps they do.
