'03 steering issues... doesn't centre
Ok, where to start? My parents have a 2003 1.4 3dr Civic. The steering seems to have a problem re-centering when on the move, almost as if there is something physically stopping it, and it needs to be manually centered.
The biggest problem seems to be on the motorway when making small adjustments to the direction of the car, the wheel will stay in the same postition until the driver puts it back to centre position. We took the car back to the dealer we bought it from (not Honda) who sent the rack away for recon, but this did not solve the problem (as I'd suspected).
Has anyone else had the same porblem or does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem please?
As the steering is electronically conrolled I thought that there might be an automatic centering device built in to the steering column perhaps, which could be faulty? As I said, the problem only seems to be noticed with small incremental movements of the wheel, ie when the wheel is turned more than a few degrees it will come back to center (or nearby) without any driver input, so the problem isn't as noticeable around town. Honda seem to think that it may be the speed sensor, and although I'm not entirely convinced, we are now looking into this.
Any help on this matter would be very much apreciated. If we manage to solve the problem in the meantime I will post the cause on here...
Thanks
