Useless piece of metal?
Okay, anyone ever take off their door panels and look inside behind the white sheet of plastic? You'll see metal tubing that the sheet metal is glued to. Then you'll see this big metal thing that is attached to the metal tubing. I think this was left over from the assembly of the doors. I'm not sure though? Does anyone know what this piece of metal is? If it has any sort of function? If not, then I'm going to rip that crap off. It's just dead weight.
umm, perhaps we're talking about the same area but we have different chunks of metal? I had about a 3"x6" flat unpainted piece of sheet metal in the location you're referring too...
Mine was like, barely attached to the tubing, much like it was tacked on there... I didn't have it on the passenger side only the drivers side, and it was in front of the tubing... i just bent it back and forth and broke it off, I thought it might be a screwup.... is this like yours???? Hum... Weird. If I remember correctly it's about 6"x6" and it has holes in it. It wraps around the tubing a little in the middle. When I tried to take it off I just tried to gently pry it apart. I'll use more force next time. And yes, I have one on each side! Which year is your vic? 2001 or 2002? I have a 2001.
Could it possibly be a theft detterent? I know some cars have something similiar to this that stops a would-be car thief from using a slimjim to pop the lock. Just an idear I threw out there.

Nah, I think it's like I said. Leftovers from manufacturing. I wonder why avenger had only one and it looked different? Maybe after they put the door on it fell off? Then they're like, "what the hell" and threw it away?
Maybe honda's sheet metal disposal program became too expensive, so they just tack the extras in the doors and hope no one knows
Or maybe our doors were part of an international drug/kidney/kid smuggling ring, and they hid the drugs/kidneys/brats behind the metal?

Hehe, maybe!
Allright, I'm going to do my homework and then take that crap off. It probably weighs a good 5 pounds. Hey, that's about .005 seconds in the quarter mile that I lose!

Aw yeah, I'll say something like:
Shave up to a second off of your ET! These plans for the 7th gen civic coupe tell you how to remove excess pieces of metal left over after manufacturing. By doing so you can decrease the weight of the car for a better power to weight ratio. These detailed plans show you exactly what you can remove and how you can remove it. After doing so we guarantee that your car will have a lower ET than before. Act now, be one of the very first people to have a lighter and faster 7th gen civic coupe! It takes only an hour or two to take these useless pieces of metal off. Even less if you're comfortable working in and around your car! Only $5.00 for the instructions and $3.86 shipped anywhere.
Having read something like that would you buy?

I don't really know what you people are talking about but just a thought...Maybe thats a part of the safety thing that gave the 01 coupes the 5 star side impact rating. just a thought probably not true if its only barley hanging on.
If were talking about the same piece, it was a great place to mount my DEI 530T window module, it fit perfectly with double sided tape and then covered with the white plastic. Anyone have pictures of this spot so that we know if we are all talking about the same thing?

<< where are the side airbags located in our cars that have that option? could it be a mounting location for them? >>
No, side airbags are in the sides of the seats. My sister's LX has them.

I'll borrow a digital camera today and maybe I'll take some pictures today as well. Depends on if I have the time or not. If not, then I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

I set the time to borrow the camera for tomorrow. I'll take some pics tomorrow and I'll post them in a new thread in the Tech Stuff forum tomorrow at around 4:00 - 6:00. Stay tuned...
You know a couple of weeks ago I removed this 5x1 inch metal/rubberish brick from my
front crossmember when I was installing my header. I seemed to be holding the wires
for the emissions sensor on the exhaust manifold outa the way. Does any one know
what that was? It was really heavy. I'm all for removing weight, I'm working on air
conditioning now.
