Aftermarket XM Radio Installation

I have a Terk Commander XM radio receiver I took off of another vehicle, and was wondering how difficult it is to get into the dash/console housing of our Civics? The Terk Commander is a tiny radio face with a main control box you have to mount somewhere hidden. Any input is greatly appreciated. Also what method would be the best to install the XM antenna and run the wiring? Thanks.

its pretty easy to take off, theres diy somewhere. basically a few screws and it all pulls out. you can mount the antenna inside the car on the rear deck lid and it will still get good reception if you dont want messy things on the outside of the car.

Re: Aftermarket XM Radio Installation

Okay so I was able to pop off the upper front part of the console and there's likely enough room in there for the brain of my XM radio and there's a perfect spot for the face in the little coin tray just behind the shifter but where would I tap in for power and ignition power??-This is a hard-wire in unit; I hate to have to tear into my car too much. Thanks...

Re: Aftermarket XM Radio Installation

well you should run a new power line from the battery, imo.

Question Re: Aftermarket XM Radio Installation

That shouldn't be too hard, but my unit has a wire for switched ignition power as well as a battery lead. Where would be the best place to tap into ignition switched power for that wire? I'm really trying to get away from removing the stock radio. That seems like no fun. I can survive with no ignition swithed power I guess, just run the battery wire two both those wires? Thanks

Re: Aftermarket XM Radio Installation

im pretty sure its just a remote turn on type of a deal for ignition power. you can prolly tap the main ignition wire under the steering wheel covers, maybe even the 12v socket power. since the unit is powered by the battery cable, i dont think the ignition power has to be a big wire.
