Right Direction
Hey all.
Can anyone point me in the right direction if im not already heading that way. Im wanting to buy a 1996 Honda civic hatch and drop something with a little more grunt into it. Is there a thread/page/site that looks a little deeper into that matter in regards to what fits, best value, tips tricks and even guides. Anything would be a great help. Ive got a thing for Hot hatches and the civic is starting to eat me inside out.
Cheers.

Re: Right Direction
Welcome to civicforums, "The New Guy"
Well chances are that most people here will tell you to use the search button or go google more information. You can do a lot to a civic. And that's an understatement. When you say that you want to drop something into it, you're referring to an engine swap right? The most common swap into your car is just about any B series motor. B16, B18 etc. I don't know too much about it because I have a 7th gen. Now-a-days you'll see more people putting the K series motor into the 6th gen. Bigger, better, faster. So if you take a look around the net, you'll be sure to find all the information you could have ever wanted to know. You can also find some great books in the transportation section of borders. there are a ton of great articles here as well. Good luck with your adventure.

Re: Right Direction
Yeah Thanks for the warm intro.
First off, nice spot on the TNG.
I was looking at the K20 thismorning but i must have been confused cause i thought it was for the VW GOLF. What would you suggest. I personally think the 1996 is a little outdated, although classic in design. K20 into a Ek you say. EK sounds expencive. Ive got arround a 20k budget. but ofcourse would prefer to spend as little as possible.
Hmm im glad ive found this site. Hopefully you will beable to help me out if i run into any snags along the way.

Re: Right Direction
1---------EG hatch = 5K
2---------K20a2, K20z1, or K20a (k20a = best bet) = 6K
(From RSX's and Si's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_K_engine)
Option 2-------or K24 (from TSX and Accord)
3---------Minor Mods (I/RH/E/Kpro) = 2.5K
4---------Gut your car = Free
5---------Buy slicks = 500
6---------PROOOFFFFIIITTT!!!
6 aftermath =

Been done here also (http://www.ek9.org/forum/cars-sale/5...e-gearbox.html)
14k USD
So yeah for 20K u can have a pretty quick ride, capable of low 13's

Re: Right Direction
These Aussie prices? If so its look good for me.
Also is there a cheeper alternative to the k20. Something with a little less...you know :P. If i can get it all done from 12-15k ill be happy. And reselling should get my money back? Im wanting to use it day to day so it doesnt have to have top gear in it. Just enough to get me excited after a waiting at the lights.

Re: Right Direction
My cousins live in Perth, drives a RX-7. Great place, i should go back to visit.
But in all honesty, whatever you drop into the car, expect half back at most. Id honesty go with a B series now that prices have dropped.

Re: Right Direction
i vote b-series as well. k-series is nice, but with an ek, i think i would go b-series just to keep it period-correct. you would also save some money and be able to put a little more into getting some nice detail parts from the civic type-r. just my .02.
