gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

I am building a 2005 civic 2 door I bought that was a theft recovery. I bought it since it is not bad and I picked it up for cheap.

They took the Gauge cluster our when they stripped it. My question is, what all guages can be used in this car. The car is a dx so it is pretty basic. Automatic trans. Can I buy the gauges with the tach, and will it work? I would like to do that since they look better. Please let me know if you can help me out. lol. Im new to the civic world.

Thanks

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

you can buy an 01-02 civic EX/LX cluster with tach and plug it in. the 03-05 EX/LX requires repinning the connectors but its possible.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

You mean the instrument panel, with the speedo and tach?

I think you can use the tach from an LX or EX, but I'm not certain. PM member "gearbox" if he doesn't respond to this thread, he'll know for sure.

If you want to do it cheap, I've got an 01-03 DX cluster in the garage I'll let you have for something like $20+ shipping. I just wanna get rid of it. You'd have to do some very minor rewiring (swapping some pins around) but it'll work just fine for ya.

Will the 01-02 cluster fit up the same? If so that looks to be the better option. I just want a tach in the car at least.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

Yeah, it'll fit. Like I said, it may take a tad bit of rewiring, but not even any soldering. It's simple. But I hate to say it, I don't have a working tach with a cluster. Well, not one with working lights, anyways. If you want an 01 EX cluster (that's the one with a tach) and don't mind the backlights not working, I'll let you have it for free, just shipping. You're welcome to experiment with lighting options if you want, I just ran out of time.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

he never mentioned if the original was a 01-02...he said he is buildING a 2005...so im guessing its an O5 already?

if so, it should be plug n play...but you still might need to add some wires...like the tach

I think it's wired for the tach already, like gear said.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

he also mentioned that it was a DX, so the year doesnt matter. they all use the old style gauges with no tach. and yes there is a tach wire in the harness.

Oh, so all the DX's use the two-circle style for the gauges?

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

well, since its a DX, it means he's got either a 01-02/03 base???

cuz the 04/05 are "VP" arent they?

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

any 01-05 dx/vp and 01-02 lx/ex uses the old style gauges (some with tach and some without), and all are swappable. the second gen LED clusters only came on the 03-05 lx/ex. they cannot be swapped without rewiring.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

It is the vp 05. The auction I bought it from stated that it was a 2005 Honda Civic DX VP. Not sure if they got it mixed up or not. I know it is an 05. lol

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

Then yeah, you'd have the DX style gauges with no tach. Like I said, if you wanna mess with some EX-style with no lights, you're welcome to them.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

I found a set that I might buy. One more question since you guys have been great help. Does it matter if it is 2 dr or 4 dr? Are they the same? Thanks for the offer on the cluster though.

Re: gauge cluster question-need help for 2005 civic

They're the same. Just make sure you get an Auto trans if you have an auto, and the same applies for the manual.

2 door and 4 door are different backlight colors tho, and different daytime face too. sedan has yellow/green, coupe has amber/red.
