aftermarket shocks for my car
aftermarket shocks for my car
Car: 2003 Civic Seden
I have lowering springs on stock shocks
Now I am planning to replace my stock shocks only
I dont like the ride of my car with just the springs with stock shocks
Any recommendation for my car?

Bilstein.
You could go with Tokico, Koni, KYB if you really want to have a little **** to tweak.... but Bilsteins will fill 99.99% of your street needs.

Re: aftermarket shocks for my car
jake im going to have to disagree on this.
a shock is a absorber that is independent seen on the back of lets just say... suvs and trucks and jeeps you see one on the front of the axle one on the back they are also on my altima where the shock is independant from the spring.
where as a strut is a shock enclosed into a spring making it one. i can remove the stut and the spring comes along with it.
yes technically there is a shock inside of it but its called a strut. and its a mistake commonly made by people, and im here to help get the lingo right.
not flame or anything just stating a fact.

I understand. In this context, though, I think shock is more appropriate.
The OP said, "I have lowering springs on stock shocks

I agree with what you're saying. A strut is a suspension part that's comprised of a spring and a shock, among other things. But those are the major parts. Since he's referring to each part individually, I think shocks is more appropriate here. He already has lowering springs, and is asking about specific shocks, which is why "Koni" and "Bilstein" are coming up.
Wait a second here... Are we actually having an intelligent debate?

We have a strut with an integrated shock (damper). You guys are arguing over semantics
And hatch, it's "they're struts"

CivicHatch9one, the easiest way to describe them would be that All Struts are shocks but not all shocks are struts.
But really, the term "shocks" is a bad one to use. Given that their job is not to absorb shocks... but rather to dampen the springs oscillations. Which is why in the racing field they are referred to as dampers.

Re: aftermarket shocks for my car
Anyone using Tokico blues on 4 door?
I am considering that...
I asked the shop and they quoted me $640 installed
Its mostly city driving, not track
But right now I am just sitting on stocks with lowered springs and its bumpy...

Re: aftermarket shocks for my car
Blues are good for a street car, not for performance.. They're best for cars w/ a 1.5" drop or less, they dont seem to last very long w/ bigger drops.
That's a pretty good price, EBay sells em the cheapest, they go for about 350 I beleive.. and yes I have them on my 4dr.
