Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
Hello all,
My name is Antonio. I have been a member here on the forums for a few months, I don't post an awful lot, I'm still learning with my manual 2001 Ex Coupe. But I do frequently check other posts and topics...alot!
I have a favor to ask! I have a very strange noise coming from...somewhere. It is a very high pitched, i think electrical, squeal. If any of you can hear a TV when it on, that high pitched whine, that's the noise it makes. Many people can't hear this because, the frequency is so high, but some of us were cursed with the ability to hear these frequencies. The noise, I am absolutely sure, just started today.
So, to get the noise to occur, is every time I press the gas pedal sharply, it makes the noise. I don't mean from like idle to the floor really fast, thats not how I drive. I like my gas mileage. I just mean a quick little blip of the throttle, like when rev matching. It happens when I'm in gear...only know because I checked. I don't press throttle sharply when I'm in gear usually. It does it in neutral, and when the clutch is pressed.
The sound seems as though as it is coming from within the cabin of the, car, like from the dash, but I am not sure. I opened up the hood and played with the throttle from the throttle body and I couldn't hear the noise. I can't hear this noise unless I am in the car. Which is the second reason I think it is electrical.
I have not yet tried pushing the pedal down sharply when the car is off, to just see if it's the throttle cable or the pedal, but this is not a rub or a metal to metal surface rub or anything, I am sure it is electrical noise.
I have no idea where to start trying to solve this problem , please no posts like rev matching. :-( I like the way I drive and don't want to stop. I just can't stand this noise! Any help would be greatly appreciated and I tahnk you in advance for just reading though this monster of a post!
Best,
Antonio

Re: Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
Put your ear to the fuse box thats under and to the left of the steering column, or up to your faceplate/deck. I'm sure the noise is coming from one of those two spots, if not the speakers.
Re: Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
Thank you for the post, I will check them tomorrow after classes. If it is in the fuse box under that steering column, I would assume its a screwy fuse. but, if its coming from the deck/faceplate, what could that be? A short or something? I also turned my head unit off and checked as well, but it still made the noise. But maybe thats because there is still a small level of voltage going to them. Anyways, Ill check the other two spots. Thanks again for the response and I'll let ya know what happens tomorrow.
Best,
Antonio

Re: Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
it could be the deck/cd player grounding out on something. when the deck grounds out it makes noises that go along with the rpm of the engine. besides that i dont know man..
Re: Help with wierd (electrical?) Noise!
Well guys, thanks for your help, I appreciate it! I figured it out. I was wrong, it [I]was[I] a metal on metal rubbing. It was either where the gas pedal pivots or the the spring beside it. I shot it all with teflon spray. All is good. Thanks guys!
