Auto -> Manual swap, where to go?

Well I'm from Montreal, but I'm willing to bring my car down to Toronto just to get this swap done. Anyone ever get a quote on one?

Re: Auto -> Manual swap, where to go?

thats a crazy lot of money why not just buy a whole new engine with a manual tranny and do the swap urself??? Its not that hard. You just need patience and the right tools. I havent ever done it myself but i assume it is not that difficult and then i'd just sell ur auto engine with the tranny. Seems that simple. You just need to have the time and prolly another car while u work on the swap.

hahahahaha!!! I like your logic, but heres a life lesson for you

1. Nothing is EVER as easy as it seems.
2. Well, you were right about one thing, right tools for the job means EVERYTHING. The problem is you also need the right tools to fix the things that go wrong. That is where we usually come up short.

What year is your car? Why not just trade your car or sell your car and buy one that is manual already?

Re: Auto -> Manual swap, where to go?

The reason I won't sell for a manual is mainly, ive put about 10,000$ in mods alone in the car, including a turbo kit. Except the kit scrapped my tranny, and even though I still have 2 spare auto trannies and a spare engine laying around, I think I'm better out dishing out the $$$ to get a manual swap done. I'm willing to pay up to 3500$ for this swap.

Re: Auto -> Manual swap, where to go?

that's no Lsd tranny for our motor...and i did the tranny swap at KSR too....they did a good job....u will feel a big different...coz i have a dx motor and i swap a si tranny so it can rev higher rpm my redline is at 6500 rpm when is still auto but after swap plus the mod i got i can go up to 7500 or 7600 rpm...if u change the ecu too i think it can go up to 8000 rpm no problem..coz i didn't change the auto ecu to a manual ecu...but it still good enough on the street...

Actually, Quaife is a company that produces products such as LSD.

And yes, we use "Z"s instead of "D"s ?? What are you talking about?

Auto Montreal

This is a classic and wonderful picture from GM archives. Although Zora once stated that his favorite year for Corvette was 1965, this is actually a ’66 427.

Re: Auto -> Manual swap, where to go?

I don't think you need to weld anything for a 5spd swap. Honestly do it yourself. A basic parts list:

Transmission (Junkyard, 400$)
Clutch (200+ for a high end)
Flywheel (Go for lightweight, probably 200+)
Shifter cables (junkyard)
Shift box(Junkyard)
Shift **** + Interior Trim (Junkyard, ebay?)
Clutch pedal assembly (Junkyard)
Master cylinder + lines

I think that about sums it up. I've never done the swap but I'd definitely tackle the job. The hardest part is probably the pedal which you probably would need welding for. Basically, get everything you can get done in your house out of the way and then take it to a shop to finish the welding portion. It honestly isn't all that hard and you wont spend 1000+ on labour. A shop will probably weld the pedal stuff for you pretty cheap (Not sure if it needs it, even)

In fact, I found a DIY: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...sion-swap.html

Covers a lot of it.
