Re: Flywheel Question

the OEM clutch is perfectly fine, BUT, if you're tearing apart stuff, you might as well check out your clutch and see how much life it has left, and if it's pretty worn, go ahead and replace it so everything is fresh.

66k miles on my k and my clutch still looks new.

Re: Flywheel Question

^Exactly, at least check your throwout bearing. Theres no point in taking it all apart again a little ways down the road because you didnt check everything while it was apart.

How many miles do you have on your clutch?

not at all. a lightened flywheel makes your revs drop slower, so as a result, they also climb faster. honestly i'm a fan of the OEM flywheel, i think it serves just fine.

and good call on the throwout bearing spoonEM. definitely check that too. odds are if you're 50k or more you should just go ahead and replace it. it's not expensive and takes about 5 seconds once the tranny is away from the motor.

Actually, you're incorrect. having a lightened flywheel makes your revs drop FASTER, and your revs will go up faster. since the flywheel is lightened, it can be spun quicker (less mass to rotate). However, because your flywheel has less mass, theres less inerta to keep the flywheel spinning at a given speed, so the revs will drop faster.

having too light of a flywheel for a daily driver is impracticle, imo, as it makes driving more difficult, i.e. bogging in between shifts.

Re: Flywheel Question

I don't know how the 7-lb one is that Honda05 has (and Carl is still trying to sell ), but when I was NA, the 11-pound Exedy did not make my revs drop any faster that I could notice. Seemed a bit ballsier (no idea of any HP gains aside from butt dyno), however the throttle transition from on to off was more abrupt.

Re: Flywheel Question

OEM flywheel = more torque, less available HP
Lightweight flywheel = less torque, more available HP

Clutch kit = Better grab, when lots of HP is present then youll need better grab so consider this if ever boosting a stock car. Stock clutch wont do so well under boost conditions.

somethin like that.
