Struts/Rattling (Warranty?)
Struts/Rattling (Warranty?)
Hey,
I have a 2003 Civic EX sedan with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer but the doors are already rattling and I have a blown right strut. I’m the first owner and I drive carefully over speed bumps, don’t race and my roads aren’t too bad so I can’t understand why my windows and doors rattle and I have a blown strut. Does this normally happen? I bought the extended warranty; am I covered?
Don’t think the dealers are that nice right? So, for someone who wants a comfortable ride and a mild drop; should I buy Megan coilovers, maybe this (http://www.truehonda.com/inventory.p...tdetail&id=424) or something else?
Thanks.

Re: Struts/Rattling (Warranty?)
The 36,000 miles or 3 year warranty expired last year already and I only have the extended warranty which I'm sure doesn't cover everything. Trying to see what people have to say before I make an appointment with the dealership in case they try to lie.

if your extended warranty is a Honda Care warranty then you are fine. I had my leaking strut replaced on my 02 civic at 70,000 miles. So if thats the extended warranty you have you should be cool. If you do have honda care then you have I believe seven years or 100,000 miles from the purchase date/mileage.

Rattle is hit or miss...
Re: Struts/Rattling (Warranty?)
ok perfect question.
Why not take it to the dealership? They have the best trained techs, they've torn apart a **** load of hondas, they have the best equipment, best parts, best of the best. Sure when it comes down to it people are just people....but these guys have but years and hardwork into becoming master honda techs. They are awesome. They know hondas inside and out and they are fast! Plus if anything happens just go back and bitch.....dealerships generally stand up and take care of customers. Good customer retention is the key! I do agree we are overly pricey but as hard as the people there work to be as good as they are....they deserve it. Just my 2 cents.
I work at a Honda/Toyota dealeship as a Service Advisor/ASM and I love the techs I got. They've all been in the business for 25+ and most of that on Honda's & Toyotas.
Oh, and back to your question....your are outside your factory 3yr 36k...however most extend warranties cover struts. I call them everyday of the week, you don't know wether a part is cover until you get the car in,diagnosis, and call them. Then they tell you if it's covered. Generally though I have never been turned down for struts. Plus if it is Honda Care it is covered 100%....anything under $500 dollars I don't even have to call them on, just get an auth# and do it!

Depends what extended warranty package you paid for. I bought the Premium one where everything is guaranteed for 7 years so I would bring it back to the dealership service department if I had such problem
Re: Struts/Rattling (Warranty?)
at 20k miles, if you did blow the strut, it was defective. theres no reason not to get upwards of 80k on them.
Just out of curiosity, how many different packages does Honda Care have, bc i only only have engine and powertrain, which im finding to be a joke. I just broke my shift lever, only to find out that its only on internal lubricated parts. even though the shifter is part of the tranny, since it is external to it, it was not covered.
