Question 97 Civic EX *owners* - quick and easy question for you...

Maybe all 6th Gens are the same but I'd love to hear this from a fellow 1997 EX Coupe owner....

When your low beams are on is your high beam dash light lit? Then when you put your high beams on does the dash light just get brighter?

I'm at the point where I'm ready to flag down a 97 EX'er on the road just to ask that question. One Honda Dealership said it's normal, another said it's not normal... GRrrr!

I don't have DRLs btw, and no headlight mods either. I've had this phenomenon since I bought the car eight years ago, but I'm tracing another electrical "issue" and want to know if I should give my dash light some attention.

Thnx in advance........

i just picked a 97 ex from its original owner and it does something similar. When the lights are on, The high beam indicator is on, when you turn the high beams on it goes off. The said it had done it since new.

Hmm, that's odd also. It sounds to me like maybe your wiring got switched... that was one of the things I found when I was checking the voltage of my lights, one of the harnesses was wired incorrectly so I had the driver's-side light on high-beam while the passenger-side light was on low-beam, lol.

But if what they said was true about your car being like that since they bought it (new), that would mean the factory screwed up. Did you ever check the VIN# history to see if it had been in any front-end accidents where the headlights had to be replaced? I suppose they could have been lying about the dash-light so you wouldn't worry about it.

Do you have DRL's or keyless entry on your car? I'm not familiar with the LX but I suppose it must be fairly similar to the EX.

Anybody else have problems like these? We can't be the only EX 97'ers here with spooky dash lights.

Keyless entry, not sure what that changes. The only thing I know thats different from the LX to EX is the sunroof and the EX has the VTEC version of my engine.

The keyless entry (security system) just makes the schematics more complicated because the lights are wired into it through the factory radio. If the alarm is set and the lights are then turned on, the alarm will go off. Once I was napping in my car with the door closed and I flicked my lights on and tripped the alarm, lol.
