Somethings wrong.. Help!

Ok so my car has been acting up the past couple weeks. If i drive on the expressway or anywhere for 20ish or so minutes solid, my malfunction light comes on. Once that happens I cannot accellerate past 4k RPMS.... If i mash the pedal it will jump until it hits 4K and then just putz'z and bounces off of 4kRPMS... I really need some help w/ this. Also, my ABS light randomly decided to kick in a little before this happened.

Thanks!!

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

Sir, I am actually very happy that you said this because, I am piecing together parts for a 5 Speed swap, and was wondering if it was the tranny. In hopes that i could just kill it and the engine wasnt the issue. Keep your thoughts coming!

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

sounds like a tranny problem but you should check code, still under warranty?

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

definitely go to an autozone, pep boys, or whatever and get that code checked.. it should be free to get it checked, and finding out what code you're throwing will let you know what's messed up

Car is running in safe mode. Few things could cause it. Been there done that. Need to get it checked.

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

Yeah just like Rufus said, the car is in safe mode, allowing you to operate it, but not to harm itself any further. You can speculate all you want, but getting a diagnostic report will save a lot of headaches.
Don't know what it could be though...

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

Technically it's called "limp mode". Mine did it when the Vtec solenoid wasn't getting enough oil pressure because the screen was filled with aluminum shavings. Ya it was bad.

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

took it last night and used one of their basic lame scanners. Gave me P1259, VTEC Malfunction. I checked the oil, it looked low and dark. I dont know exactly how to clean the Solinoid screen.... So Ima do a search i guess. Anyway, im still swappin the trans. This would explain the random jolts of power i was losing and gaining (vtec) around 5,500

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

Here is what I sent on AIM

[14:24] yo mark
[14:25] This is Rufus on civicforums. Lemme know if you need advice on that code your car is throwing

[14:27] : parts numbered 14,12,21,10 are all connected to the vtec solonoid
[14:27] #10 is the screen
[14:27] #12 is the sensor
[14:28] if you look on the back passenger side of the head, you'll see it. A blue wire comes off of it
[14:38] Anyway, the lack of oil is likely your issue because when the car starts moving, the oil pressure indicated by the sensor sends a signal and vtec engages. With low oil no pressure is created and the car sees trouble and put itself into "limp mode" to protect you from killing it. Fill your oil, pull the ECU fuse under the hood out for about 10 seconds, plug it back it and go drive it again.

Re: Somethings wrong.. Help!

I spun a rod bearing and replaced an engine for the same reason. Didn't burn oil and didn't leak oil, however, somehow 2 quarts mysteriously dissappeared.
